In the new IIHS side impact test, the CX-9 earned a "Good" rating, which is the highest rating for a mid-size SUV and therefore fits alongside the CX -5.
Note that this was the second test on the 2021-2022 models and that this test focused on more serious collisions. In effect, a heavier and faster arriving barrier acted as the impacting vehicle.
The IIHS gave the CX-9 a "Good" rating in the driver's pelvic injury measure, and note that it's one of only three models to receive this rating. That's not all, it is one of only two vehicles to have received a "Good" rating in all categories!
Jennifer Morrison, Manager of Vehicle Safety Compliance, Planning and Development at Mazda said: "Our research has led us to think seriously about the body structure of our vehicles, creating the robust designs we have. on the road today. We are proud to offer our consumers the highest level of protection in the event of an accident. »
Mazda is particularly proud to receive this distinction from the IIHS, in addition to the Top Safety Pick, which all Mazda vehicles tested earned.
